Dead in the Alley
Going out for a smoke Derrick Anderson would face an adversary that he never expected. Dead in the alley of his high-end restaurant little did his wife, Bay know that the last time she would hear his voice was before the dinner crowd guests were to arrive. The menu was set, the seating in the reservation book and her world seemed just perfect until it wasn’t.
How do you deal with your whole world turned around and what happens when she learns the harsh realities of what he did to take it down even more?
What happens when Bay is a suspect in Derrick’s murder? Greg Musgrove grew up with her in the past, but their relationship did not hold when he decided to pursue a career in the police department’s drug unit. From the start you realize that there is much strain in her relationship with her family and the banter between them illuminates it. She is a great chef, but Derrick seemed to be her parent’s favorite and as we get to know her sisters and brother we realize that there is something odd about her place in the family.
The Adams country Narcotics Team is part of the country sheriff’s office and Derreck seemed to be into drugs and drug trafficking. Was she part of it?
After meeting with her husband’s financial advisor and having him look over the paperwork and computer files she would learn that all was gone. Losing her restaurant, losing her home, bank accounts wiped out, nothing left and where does she go from here? Unfortunately, back to her parent’s Inn would work there and live there but what happens you won’t believe.
Danny and Greg are lifetime friends and Danny wants to open a bike shop and include custom bike building services. Her would run the day-to-day business and Greg designed high-end bike building services. They would make a great team and they wanted to add a café plus a special area for fitting kids. Space that offered drinks and snacks and her best friend Brad offered her a chance to move ahead as part of the café. Her ideas are great and together they talked it over but would Danny and Greg go for it and how would she feel seeing Greg after so many years?
As the suspects including Bay are questioned she learns disturbing information about what Derrick did and the money he stole and more from the business. What about the cases of wine that her brother stored for Vince? Was he part of the murder and the stolen wine? Why is he arrested?
All fingers at times point to Bay but Greg is there as an ally but at times she does not see it as he is a police drug enforce officer and cannot always share what he learns.
Bay and Brad are possibly going into partnership as he wants her to deal with the café and wine. Added in Danny and Greg are going to open a bike shop with a café too, will she take on both? But first she has to come to terms with her anger with Greg, her family and within herself.
Jack felt that Derrick owed him payment and she was responsible. Was this a lie to get involved in her new venture or a scam to get money? Wally Volker was their financial advisor but what about him gives you the impression that he is not all that he appears to be and that he might have other motives. What happens when Vince disappears, and the police find a body. Is it his? Who killed Derrick Anderson, Vince and one more? Who wanted to all and who places Bay in danger?
What happens to create more tension between her and Greg as the pieces fall into place but the truths are still hidden as author Sharon Michalove takes us deep inside the minds and guilt of Bay, Greg, her family and one more.
