River Woman River Demon

Life can change in a flick of a moment even when you think you have it under control. Eva Santo Moon is a wife, mother, and bruja is dealing with her own demons in the present including her blackouts and depression. But, her husband, the rock her soulmate finds himself leaning over the corpse of her best friend Cecilia. Why was he down at the river? Why did she text him to come, and why didn’t he tell her he was meeting her? The scene is tension filled and is sad as both Jericho and Eva must deal with what happens next.

He is not in trouble and the police consider him a suspect and when her involvement is under the microscope too, can Eva trust herself and will he, Magick Jericho help her to conjure a strong enough to protect her or what caused everything to go wrong? A memory and a voice are heard as Eva recalls that her best friend died by drowning when they were small. Now her best friend has the same fate, and the police take heed and notice the similarities and the fact that both died the same way. Is she a suspect too? How did Karma hold her breath in the water? Did she hold hers and where was she when the entire world disappeared? 

The story holds your attention at Eva must face what is happening to her family when Jericho gets arrested for her friend’s murder, but did he do it? So much speculation with cell phone texts, messages deleted and circumstantial evidence that ties her into what happened to her friend. Flashing back to the past we learn more about Karma and their relationship and the fact that they both went out with two guys that were not exactly savory.

In the present Eva must protect her children and her sister Alba comes to stay with her. Within her mind she imagines that Jericho is guilty. Bobak was married to Cecilia and a person should remember a thing like that, but she is not able to process things clearly. Is Jericho guilty? In court it gets traumatic as the judge denies bail. Did she threaten her friend? Things get complex and complicated as we wonder just who or what Eva really is. Is she the River Woman who found her friend and loves the water and the river or is she the river demon that killed her and her friend in the past?
when Cecilia is found dead why is her daughter sent to foster care, where will her money go and why is her husband not concerned about Anise? The police think he is guilty, and she tries con conjuring up spells to protect her family along with her children she calls the X’s they ban together to support the father. There is bruja with curandero healing and more all the cultures that are practice. But the criminal justice system goes against a women or man of color. Visions, tapes, voices and then someone comes back into her life and things take on a different image for her. Sammy is married to Donna but Eva falls prey to his spells and things between them become too hot for her to handle and decisions are made that could take it all away from her. When Donna winds up attacked and in the hospital, and her spells begin to work but not in the right way, Eva seems bent on staying with Sammy until Le Detective and Yolanda her husband’s lawyer uncover information that shocks her into a reality you won’t believe.

Her childhood friend Karma was its murder or an accident? What role did she play? The truth shocks her but a strong of affairs for Sammy according to his brother Dom, proves that his brother was jealous of Sammy and in love with Donna and worried she would die. How will she use her Magick , what spell would protect her home? Her children have the powers, and you won’t believe how her daughter comes to her aid. A statue is the heart of this novel the statue at the antique shop in Houston. Sammy got them form Rag & bone, but her husband would not have allowed the Magick to be disrespected. But there is much more. When La Detective inquiries about her trip to Texas and then talking about Bobak the conversation deals with Cecilia  and the information changes it all. The magazine clipping in the nightclub and the drug from for a key that would run out be hiding right in front of her. What happens next changes it all as Eva is in grave danger. fingers clutch: Our Lady is Washing Death, River woman, River Demon come Tears from the river, Karma of perpetual healing, come la Muerte of Karmic justice, Tip toe Sales O sadly of Darkness . Let Me Redeem Power, come and Side my bidding> Celia, Karma   and more. An ending so terrifying and so graphic and yet reveals it all to Eva how will she cope with the truth? How will she deal with her denials and what about Jericho? Where will her loyalties lie and what happens when she is where Karma and Celicia are? Will she survive? River Woman River Demon which one wins out? Characters that were filled with magic, powers and intense incantations that would either destroy an enemy or protect those they cared for. How do you cope with a traumatic even in the past that comes full circle in the present? Author Jennifer Givhan creates a story that will keep you spellbound and creating visions of colors, pasts, statues, rings and more as you wonder what the result will be. Did Jericho kill her best friend? Why was he holding the body and why was he arrested/ How is the truth uncovered? The only way you’’ know is if you read it yourself. Eva has blackouts and often confuses events. What’s true? What’s False and what is Magic?
