Game Changers of the Apocalypse
Imagine having an argument or making a statement to let someone know your true feelings but not meaning to be hurtful. The other person overreacts and demands that you leave without having anywhere to go. Greg’s statement made Polly angry and now he was left with a small bag of his items and forced to find where to go next. His friend Simon gives him the key to his place but he foolishly locks himself out and there is no way to get back in. Then something happens, he snaps and realizes as he takes a car, any car and drives haphazardly around the streets, towns and realizes the unthinkable. Where is everyone? Why doesn’t anyone answer their phones? Why are the cars without drivers and why does the world look unhinged? All he cares about is finding Polly why? Driving around, getting burst at times with his poor steering and choice of cars or directions, he has yet to figure out that there is no one left but him and Polly.
Searching the streets, the stores, cars overturned and the world surreal and yet Greg thinks someone is watching him. A message that says Someone is watching you and then he falls down, his car is a mess and the angel that finds him is Polly. From that moment thinks heat up as all she does is criticize him and complain as all he wants to do is try and figure out what happened and where is everyone else. Signs in front of them and he thinks he is being watched. Going into stores and taking whatever they need, food, clothes and more sounds like a shopping spree for free. Staying in different places, room in a hotel and yet Greg is uncomfortable with it all. The scenes are vividly described, the world does not look normal and just where are the people and why does he get the feeling they are not alone.
Her moods change like hot water into cold, never realizing that all he wants to do is find out the truth about the people, the world and keep them both safe.
The world is viewed by Greg as a written draft of a novel that someone created and placed within the novel. As they circumvent the world and encounter many obstacles never expected losing their job, storms, shoot, and screens, and then some people seem to be returning, or are these people? Starting with the fax that says Sweet Nightmares and the faxes that send them both everywhere, but the dead have returned and want them to join them just how will they escape? They seem to know where they are and where they are going, and Polly never stops to consider Greg but only her own selfish needs. The dead want to kill both of them, but these zombie-like creatures seem to be ruling the world and they find themselves running, climbing high places, fighting them off, and entering the worlds created. For example, getting death and fearing it made his heart thump and then he does something unexpected. He finds something that she had flung away, and a question asked but how will it get answered? Then the scene that will make you laugh, cry and say what!
Will it hold up if the world returns to normal? Then reality sets in and they now have to create their own script and act like what they want to happen is going to happen. Will they survive? How will they fool them and what is his plan?
An ending that will shock you and a final reveal of what they endured. How he managed to fool the dead, how they crashed into an airship, how their tormentors ate each other, and where they wind up. The dangers, the flights to escape the dead, and what they learn about the life, themselves, and each other will come down to one word Greg reveal at the end. Author Mark Kirkbride keeps the action moving in odd and unusual directions as Greg fights for their life and in the end just what the title Game Changers of the Apocalypse means to the actions and plot lines of this novel. Sometimes the most difficult situations endured might produce the most amazing results.
