Quietly into the night
What would you do if you went to bed after a long day and woke up on a train headed for Albany? Just how did you get on the train and who is this girl that found you? Norman is a famous author who before waking up on the train will have to answer for what happened after his book signing with a reporter. But first how did he hurt his hands, how did he wake up on the train and when his wife calls him, what about him is revealed. Telling him what he has to do, getting off the train, taking the next one to Poughkeepsie and then waiting for her to come and get him to go home, Norman relates the events in his own voice, rationalizing his actions, how he published his EPUB and the trials and tribulations of being an author. The voice you hear is one that might have been drinking too much but he relates his journey to literary fame, how eBooks and publishing as many as he wants whenever he wants brings in the money, but what about why he’s on the train? The red takes over. The translucent red drape often covers his eyes and Norman becomes a dangerous fuse about to blow. Norman has an altercation with Martin Rojack that sets off several chains of events at different times.
Norman has an anger issue plus something that might cause him even more trouble than beating the pulp out of someone that ignites his fuse as we see him off to bed with his wife and the next thing he knows he asked up on a train going to Albany. His? He has no idea how he winds up on the train or why this punk rocker named Carmen takes him by the hand and hopes to deliver him to safety. This was the third time his sleepwalking interfered with his night. The first time he went north to the Adirondack Mountains and started walking or climbing and when he awoke he was standing on the mountain trail and ready to climb a trail in the rough. The second time he drove to Cape Cod. He has imaginary talks with Watson from Sherlock Holmes mysteries hoping he will help him uncover why these things happen. Then the author and Norman share how Rojack is impacting his life and looks beaten up, but he does not remember doing all the damage shown at the press conference. The author shares through Norman other people who sleepwalk and who committed crimes and murders with no memory of it at all.
Rohack wants Norman to be arrested and with his lawyer, he is able to get some charges dropped but he wants revenge. Norman is a New York Times best-selling author uses who publishes his titles as books and Rojack ignites his anger on him for not using print copies. Plus, his publisher drops him and so does the literary agency which makes his hands shake and learning that Rojack knows he’s following him and his lawyer needs to get some help to deal with more charges. Plus, his wife Kathryn seems to have her own hidden agenda looking like she’s on his side but it’s conversations and mood swings and you wonder if she’s in it to gain part of his wealth or something else.
Even making him see his doctor and you what we are not seeing. He reminds us of his 3 months in a psychiatric hospital to be followed by his wife leaving him, but they’re married. Norman at times sees visions and wonders what’s real.
A picture speaks more than a thousand words but imagine seeing the harsh reality of something hidden in a draw. The red is intensifying and what he sees in the photos will allow readers to know the reasons why other events in the present are happening and the cruelest and incredibly brilliant deceptions as only author Vincent Zandri can manipulate us to believe. But Norman’s reaction is violent, and he loses control and his anger and actions will make you shudder in fear.
The rage wins when he sees the photos and when Kathryn comes home and sees the damage she assumes he is losing his mind, calls Dr. Draper his doctor and you being to wonder whose side she is on. Violence can be handled. Her solution will shake you up.
When Norman winds up taken into another facility to get out he does something that you might think indicative of Houdini. He and Kathryn go at it and he confronts her with what he learned about her and Norman but you can tell she is making it up, fudging the truth and there is a hidden agenda that she is planning. Is she trying to get him committed for good? Is there something she is giving him that is not what it seems?
Manipulation, mind control, lies, betrayals and two people that wanted the same thing but in the end you won’t believe what happens. Norman has to face a harsh reality and a simple video reveals the truth behind what really happens to him, why he winds up in different places in the morning, who is controlling his mind and the end result what will it be? Who killed the man in Martin’s apartment and how did the person get away with it? Why did someone want Norman committed and what is the result of his eBooks? Why are they so valuable and in the end how did the author create a triple yes triple surprise and double cross? Who can Norman trust? How did his wife know where he was and so much about him? Why did she want him committed? How was someone driving him crazy? Martin’s novel will be published, what is Norman’s next step? Where will he wind up and why will he remain where he is at the end? When the world turns dark, when it’s out of control and the earth beneath him trembles: He types and then when overpowered and cannot sleep he just might once again on his own: walking QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT and find where he really belongs.
