I Will Find You

I will find you

Imagine living in a closed box with just a small hole in the front center to see outside. Imagine feeling like all four sides are closing in on you and there’s no way to escape. David Burroughs lives in this kind of world, but his world is a small unkempt jail cell with the bars facing him. In jail for killing his son or so he thinks, he relays the vision he saw when asking up from his drunken stupor. No visitors for five years and no real contact with anyone, until a dangerous prisoner died by someone on the outside, decides to create a dangerous situation, and his quiet life as a prisoner becomes a living nightmare. A simple photo and a visitor to the prisoner opens a slight crack in the box with a small ray of sunshine. Approaching the warden with what he wants created an unexpected reaction but after the warden makes an unscheduled trip his perspective changes only after David is attacked by an inmate, threatened by a guard, and the next you won’t believe. Lives are about to be upended and a daring prison escape follows as the author Harlan Coben can create. When David breaks out it’s his visitor who is his contact and they are about to go on a deadly roller coaster ride that will have more than us and wild downs riding on it.

As Rachel, his sister-in-law and visitor gather more information about his son, his ex-wife, and how she helped get do something the reader will diner as David does if there is an unknown about his son that had yet to be uncovered.

Finding a key witness who had no choice but to lie about him at his trial, another clue is uncovered.

Rachel is haunted by her own demons and why she feels responsible for someone’s death. Explaining it to her close friend, Tim, and its relation to a big story that she needed, we next meet the warden being questioned by Detective Semsey and he’s asked questions about the escape. FBI Special Agent Max Bernstein and his partner Sarah are an unusual team, both filled with humor, sarcasm, and intensity. Questioning the warden with veiled and unveiled threats thinking he’d give up David.

Events escalade when Rachel visits the woman who lied on the stand and David shows up at too. With the police and sirens roaring what will the older woman do? David needs to escape one more time and this would endanger a cop and having to use some type of brute force.

Hilde Winslow was then questioned by Max and Sarah, and you must read her responses, how smart she was as they could not break her story even with peppering her with questions in an unrelentless barrage. How David escapes is short of an episode on Spiderman or Superman. Then he and Rachel must devise a plan to find out if the child in the picture is really his son. But there are many obstacles in their way, police and FBI question her and then confronting her sister, Cheryl, learning the secret she kept for years. As the story develops even more Rachel meets with an old friend whose family handled the event where the picture of Matthew was found. Hayden Payne is loaded and Gertrude aka Pixie both have a secret concerning David’s son. But it leads back to something Rachel did to help her sister and in the end you the reader will decide guilty, not guilty and who is Matthew’s father?
as the FBI moves ahead and questions more people, Rachel and David devise a plan that they hope will bring it to an end. Confronting her friend Irene proves dangerous and quite compelling as more hidden lies come to the forefront. This is far from over as Sarah does her own search for DNA and paternity clues and affirmation of who the child was that was killed, who is the father of Matthew and Max refuses to believe her until you won’t believe what happens next. A confrontation that turned almost deadly, a standoff that could have killed David and shots that rang out in many directions. Author Harlan Coben brings it all out in the open as Cheryl and David face off, Rachel might be arrested, there others that are complicit and what about the warden and his son? Money speaks and yet David survives being kidnapped by the mob when he’s supposed to meet with someone regarding his son. Some endings are new beginnings. Money speaks but will the murderer and someone else skate. A father determined against all odds to find his son, betrayals, lies, murder, cover ups, mob connections, kidnapping, deceptions and more are just part of this story about one man David Burroughs who would not give up until he did what he promised to his son: I WILL FIND YOU! Did he? What else did he find out about himself?
