Notorious Moonlight
Notorious must commonly mean famous or well-known for a negative reason. A person is widely known and viewed unfavorably for their actions. Meet Richard Moonlight such a man who might be defined as the definition states unfavorably for his actions but in the end, you will realize he’s truly well-meaning in a unique sense of the words.
A middle-of-the-night phone call wakes Moonlight out of a drunken sleep and lucid dream. A woman is on the other end of the phone and demands he comes out to be here she loves you check out why there are turkey vultures perched on top of the roof of the cottage she is renting to two lawyers. Why? Because the chief of detectives Nick Miller gave Julia Wing his number and he had no choice but to head for the cottage and meet Julia Wing. Things move fast and furious from this point on speaking to Miller and of course coffee and maybe an egg Mc. Muffin
Why not? Talking out loud to himself and searching for her address he immediately sizes her up in his usual assessment way. Marco and Mary Mayland are the renters coming during track season. But when moonlight enters and what he sees sends Julia outside, calling the police needing to handle a double homicide that will make your stomach curdle at the sight of the victims and what they endured. Miller who is the Chief of Detectives arrives along with chief of detective Margaret Clarkson two jurisdictions one over the other. This is her jurisdiction but Maylands is an Albany resident so they will do their part namely Moonlight will. Viewing the crime scene you get their perspectives and they all agree on it. Julia is told to remain inside but why didn’t the victims put up a fight? Then going home and into his house, he finds a guest but not just anyone Fat Elvis is in the house and has nowhere else to go. Ketamine is a horse tranquilizer and a powerful anesthetic and when in humans it can create heart rate and blood pressure that gradually over the next ten to twenty minutes. It can decrease response to stimuli and in the case of the Maylands hamper their ability to fight their attacker. Then dealing with this information he gets from the ME who is his adopted brother and why bring Elvis along? But first, the interview with Julia and assessing her responses and Miller is keeping her on the suspect list. Learning about their fight over what to do about a horse and their conflicting viewpoints should be a red flag. Moonlight Funeral Home is where he worked as a kid and where his half-brother is ME and enormous at his job plus fixing up poor Fat Elvis. The lab has the smell of death and George needs a wide variety of music to play because it’s an open investigation I won’t describe the crime scene you need to see it as the author does a long with Moonlight. Not for the squeamish. Next stop and Elvis arranges for a room for them and they decide to learn more about the missing murder weapon and meet Bobby Evans entering his antique shop gives both Moonlight and Elvis a harsh and rude awakening and Evans a lesson only Moon can relate to. Tensions rise and then they decide to go to the track in Saratoga to learn more from the man who runs it Dutch and the revelations Moon gets from the talk and the mention of Julia plus let you know this man knows more about the Maylands.
Poor Elvis lost another admirer for his show that night. But, Elvis has his thoughts as Moon states the obvious about Dutch and ketamine. Then he gets a rude awakening observing Julia and her company so why fall into her trap? Next meeting with Miller and Clarkson and finding Clarkson at the track what is she after you won’t believe the epic and creative shock author Vincent Zandri gives Moonlight just when he thinks his options increased by one. But that happens and why does he not remember what happened in her place and just why is he summoned by her and Miller to the crime scene where he has been before? What do they all observe? What is the motive for murder just when you think it’s all figured out Elvis is missing, someone else is a no-show, and both he and Elvis and one more find themselves at the mercy of two sick and diabolical killers? What is their master plan? What is the weapon or means of death and will he once again live to romance another one more day? The ending leaves him possibly in sure Straits with Miller and what about Elvis? As the author writes Moonlight agrees to just another day in the death and life of Moonlight. Notorious Moonlight: bold, dangerous, inventive, and someone feared at times for his actions, thoughts, and methods. Just what’s next and will he reconnect with Maggie or just go it alone? One more fast-paced, high-powered, ingenious storyline created by author Vincent Zandri.
